In collaboration with the Health & Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) and the Quarry Products Association Northern Ireland (QPANI), Northstone’s Quarry & Asphalt Division’s recently hosted a Health and Safety Awareness Day for the Quarry Products Sector at their head office in Croaghan.
The day was designed to provide local industry with an opportunity to improve their knowledge and focused on providing practical solutions to managing health and safety effectively. The event was aimed at Managing Directors, Quarry Managers and Health & Safety Officers involved in the production of quarry products and road surfacing materials. Over 85 people from 32 different companies attended a very successful event.
The day began with the Divisions Managing Director, Mr. Willie McNabb speaking on "leadership in creating a safety culture". The audience were then split in to small groups and taken around a number of stops where sound practical advice was given on how to improve health and safety. The various stops included:
- Machinery Guarding
- Workplace Transport
- Safe Work at Heights
- Employee Involvement
- Respirable Crystaline Silica
- Occupational Health
The day finished with an open forum and discussion; and we ended the day by providing all those who attended the opportunity to tour our production facility under the guidance of our Quarry Manager and Production Director.
