Maxdrain
Maxdrain is Northstone's new surfacing designed with the environment in mind. With global warming changing weather systems world-wide, we in Northern Ireland will not be left unaffected, with the possibility of milder, wetter winters.
Hard surfaces, such as roofs, paths, roads, and car parks, are a fact of urban ( even civilised?) life. They do not absorb rainfall, but direct it straight to drains, and then to streams and rivers, which, in spells of very wet weather, can flood rapidly.
Maxdrain, part of our Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS), it is a porous macadam which tops-off the Maxdrain SuDS, and allows large quantities of rainwater from storm events to be retained on site for the duration of the event, only allowing the retained water to drain away at a controlled rate over a period of time after the storm event (recovery, i.e., system drainage time, is typically designed to be not more than 24 hours). Installation of Maxdrain SuDs systems can help prevent rapid flooding downstream of the surfaced site.
